What is a mapped folder, and why do I need one?

Modified on: 2026-10-12 16:43:37 +0100

A mapped folder is a regular folder on your Mac that you connect to MediaSeal File System. MediaSeal shows it as a folder in the MediaSeal Volume.

Why do I need one?

Mapping tells MediaSeal which folders on your Mac to make available in the MediaSeal Volume. Files must be in a mapped folder to appear there.

The MediaSeal Volume is the access point MediaSeal uses to handle encrypted files. Open a file from the volume so MediaSeal can apply its access and decryption process and make the contents available to an allowed application. Opening the file directly from its original folder in Finder is blocked.
